Maryville (Tenn.) 95, Rust 80

ITHACA, N.Y. — Senior guard Erin Sanvidge (Catholic Central/Troy) scored a career-high 22 points and the Ithaca Bombers recorded their highest scoring output in nine years as the Bombers (3-7, 1-0 Empire 8) opened Empire 8 play with a 97-77 rout of the visiting Elmira Soaring Eagles (7-4, 0-1 Empire 8) Tuesday.

Ithaca held a double-digit lead for the game's final 23 minutes in recording the program's highest point total since netting 98 against Marymount on Jan. 4, 1999. Senior guard Sue Kelly (Bethlehem/Delmar) added 21 points (one short of her career high), junior forward Erika Steele (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.) added 18 and freshman center Jeanine Burke (Bridgewater-Raritan/Raritan, N.J.) came off the bench to match a career-high with 11 points. Sophomore guard Amy Smith (Dover/Dover, N.H.) scored a career-best seven.

Sophomore forward Mary Symonds (Fall Mountain/South Acworth, N.H.) led Elmira with 15 points. Sophomore guard Marcia Coakley (Beekmantown Central/Plattsburgh) and senior forward Tasha Lopez-Pitts (Maspee/Barnstable, Mass.) added 12 each (Coakley scored 10 of her points from the free-throw line, where Elmira went 26 of 37 and outscored the hosts 26-14). Junior guard Kourtney Troutman (Pine Valley/South Dayton) pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds.

Junior Molly Friel (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh, Pa.) led Ithaca with a career-best eight rebounds. Junior guard Kali Carnovale (St. Mary's Area/Kersey, Pa.) added career-best totals of six rebounds and seven assists. Freshman guard Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) added seven assists with Sanvidge and Smith contributing five each. Ithaca's total of 30 assists fell two short of the team's 26-year-old record.

The Bombers host Hartwick in an Empire 8 game Friday at 6 p.m.
