Gustavus Adolphus 63, Bethel 57

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Britta Schwartzhoff and Jessica Heinen scored 18 points apiece as visiting Hamline defeated Macalester 65-50 Wednesday night. Shelby Hyllengren grabbed nine rebounds dished out six assists and Megan Haugen had five steals. Schwartzhoff went 4-for-5 on three-pointers. Hamline improves to 8-6 on the season and 6-5 in the MIAC. Macalester is now 5-9 overall, 3-8 in MIAC play.

Elise Pagel contributed 17 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots to lead the Scots. It was her third double-double of the season. Trina PaStarr added 15 points and a couple blocked shots. Pagel and Annie Borton each grabbed four offensive boards. Danielle Johnson had three assists and three steals.

Macalester pulled down 14 offensive rebounds and out-scored HU 10-2 on second chance points.

Hamline went 7-for-18 from behind the arc and 14-for-17 from the free throw line. The Pipers out-scored the hosts 24-14 in points in the paint.

The Scots led 11-7 at the 11:25 of the first half before Hamline staged a 22-4 run to go up 29-15 with two minutes to go in the half. Hamline led by eight points at 43-35 with 8:26 to play and then put things away with a game-clinching 15-2 run.

Macalester is back in action Saturday (Jan. 20) when it hosts Gustavus. Hamline plays Saturday at home against St. Olaf.
