Harvey was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line en route to his game-high 15 points, adding two assists and three steals for the Eagles. Freshman guard Brock Bradford (Kenduskeag, Maine/Bangor Christian) added 12 points, while sophomore forward Scott Kissinger (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) and junior guard Sheraud Lee (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) tossed in 11 points each.
Freshman guard John Sewall (Bath, Maine/Cheverus) and junior forward Nick Gooding (Concord, Calif./Mount Diablo) paced Southern Maine with 12 points each. Sewall added a game-high five assists while Gooding notched a double-double grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior guard Foster Oakley (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) and junior forward Drew Coppenrath (Barnet, Vt./St. Johnsbury) chipped in with 10 points a piece. Coppenrath finished with nine rebounds as the Huskies won the battle on the boards out-rebounding Husson 50-30.
Both teams battled evenly throughout the game. Husson, which never trailed in the second half, was able to distance itself from the Huskies late in the second stanza. Ahead by just four points, 59-55, following a three-pointer from USM’s Sewall at the 4:44 mark, Husson used an 8-3 run to lead the Huskies by nine, 67-58, with 2:24 to play. The Eagles received points from four different players in the run.
Forced to foul, USM put the Eagles on the line and they responded as Harvey drained all five of Husson’s attempts from the charity stripe down the stretch.
Husson finished the game shooting 41.1 percent (23-for-56) from the field and was 81.8 percent from the free throw line making 18 of its 22 free throws, including 13 of 15 in the second half. Southern Maine, hampered by 18 turnovers, shot just 37.9 percent (25-for-66) from the floor and was just eight of 15 from the free throw line (53.3 percent).
Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (February 17) at 3 p.m. when it travels to Keene State College for its final regular season game. Husson travels to Maine Maritime Academy on the same date for a 1 p.m. contest.
