Virginia Wesleyan 73, Bridgewater (Va.) 59

DANBURY, CT — Ashley Marble (Topsfield, ME) scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 19 rebounds as seventh ranked University of Southern Maine defeated Western Connecticut State University, 60-57 at Feldman Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Colonials led by seven points, 37-30 in the opening minute of the second half following a short jumper by freshman Katie Moffo (Southington, CT).
The game would be tied five times, the last with 1:44 remaining, before Southern Maine took the lead on a lay up by Marble for a 57-55 advantage, a lead that would not be challenged.
Katie Sibley (Boothbay, ME) had 15 points for the Huskies, now 10-1 overall and atop the Little East Conference with a 3-0 record, before leaving the game with a leg injury early in the second half.
WestConn was led by Ally Greenwood (East Hartford, CT) who canned 17 points, had four assists and four steals for the 8-4 Colonials.
Stacey Roberts (Windham, CT) added 13 points and seven rebounds for WestConn.
The Colonials travel to Keene State College for a 5:30 pm tip on Tuesday, January 9.
