ALMA, Mich. — The Albion College men's basketball team built a big lead and then held on down the stretch to pick up their second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association road victory of the season 73-64 at Alma College Wednesday night.

Albion improved to 7-14 overall and 5-6 in the MIAA while Alma fell to 2-19, 1-10.

The Britons jumped out to a 41-27 halftime lead thanks to 50 percent shooting from the field. Junior Jim Cash scored 15 of his career-high 21 points in the first half and senior Zak Silas netted 10 of his 15 points.

Sophomore Drew Yancey added 12 points and junior Dean Raven poured in nine points and snatched a game-high 10 rebounds, falling a point short of his first career double-double.

The Britons outrebounded the Scots 35-25, with Silas and Cash each grabbing six boards. Each team turned the ball over just 11 times.

Alma came back in the second half behind 50 percent shooting while Albion shot just 38 percent, the same percentage the Scots shot in the first half. After Albion built its lead as big as 18, Alma fought all the way back to within 64-60 with 1:26 remaining.

But sophomore guard Robbie Clark made a three-point play for the Britons to extend their lead to seven.

Albion made 6-of-6 free throws in the final minute to seal the victory. Albion finished the game 15-for-17 from the free throw line.

Isaac Smith led Alma with 21 points and Ryan DeHaan added 15.

The Britons will return home to continue MIAA action Saturday when they face Kalamazoo at 3 p.m. at Kresge Gymnasium.
