ALBION, Mich. — The Albion College men’s basketball clicked on all cylinders Wednesday night as it rolled to a 73-43 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association victory over Olivet at Kresge Gymnasium.

Albion improved to 5-12 overall and 3-4 in the league while Olivet fell to 4-13, 2-5.

The Britons got offensive production from just about everyone, as five players scored at least nine points and 10 players scored at least two points. Senior center Evan Way led the Britons with a season-high 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Junior Jim Cash, sophomore Andrew Holms, junior Dean Raven and first-year Robbie Clark added nine points apiece for the Britons. Clark’s total was a career-high.

The game was close for much of the first half - with the lead changing hands four times - before Albion broke it open with an 11-0 run to take a 33-22 lead with 46 seconds remaining. Way sparked the spurt with a jumper and a layup and Cash and Clark both hit 3-pointers. Albion led 33-25 at the half.

The Britons didn’t lose their momentum after halftime. They outscored Olivet 18-2 to begin the half to take a commanding 51-27 lead with 12:35 remaining. The run was highlighted by a fastbreak dunk by Holms.

The Britons kept the crowd excited later in the half when Raven received a pass in the paint and power-slammed over an Olivet defender.

Albion’s biggest lead of the night was the final margin of 30.

First-year Andy Sierminski led Olivet with 12 points and Brandon Way chipped in 10.

Albion was very efficient on offense for most of the game. While it shot 46.7 percent, it had 22 assists on 28 made field goals and just six turnovers. Olivet, on the other hand, had 14 turnovers which led to 22 Albion points, including 10 on the fastbreak.

Albion held the Comets to 27.8 percent shooting, including 19.2 percent in the second half.

The Britons will continue MIAA play Saturday when they travel to Adrian to take on the Bulldogs at 3 p.m.
