BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Despite game-high scoring efforts from senior captain Quinton Spencer and sophomore Mike Loll, the Oberlin men\'s basketball team lost a tough contest to host SUNY-Brockport this evening, 66-78. Both Spencer and Loll tallied 20 points and reached double figures in rebounding, but a handful of Golden Eagles reached double digits in scoring en route to the win.

Oberlin played Brockport evenly in the first half, trailing just 31-34 at the intermission. In the second period, the hosts led by as much as 14 points, but Head Coach Isaiah Cavaco\'s Yeomen came back strong, tying the game at 61-61 off a layup by Spencer with 6:44 left in the game. The Golden Eagles responded by going on an 11-3 run, though, taking a 72-64 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the contest.

Spencer continued his march towards 1,000 career points this evening, needing just 105 more points to reach the milestone entering today\'s game. He added a game-high 14 rebounds and shot a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. In addition to his 20 points, Loll also pulled down 11 boards and blocked two shots in 30 minutes of work.

Junior guards Matt Godwin and Jordan Beard also had fine nights for the Yeomen. Godwin, the NCAC\'s leader in three-point field goals made last season, drained two treys and dished out a team-best four assists. Beard contributed eight points in 31 minutes of action.

After his first game at the helm for Oberlin, Cavaco was pleased with his team\'s effort. \"We played really hard, and although we made some fundamental mistakes, I give the guys a lot of credit for coming back from being 14 down and tying the game.\"

Added Cavaco, \"A lot of the mistakes we made tonight were self-inflicted, and once we clean those up, we\'ll be in good shape.\"

The Yeomen out-rebounded the Golden Eagles, 42-32, and also shot an impressive 14-15 from the free throw line.

Brockport was led in scoring by Joe Clark, who hit a trio of three-pointers and tallied 14 points. Dan Rubertone and Mychal Wilkes both had 13 points for the Golden Eagles.

Oberlin will play in day two of the Brockport Classic tomorrow afternoon in a 2:00 p.m. showdown with St. Lawrence.
