Muhlenberg 60, Moravian 53

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — In MASCAC women’s basketball action, the Salem State College Lady Vikings breezed to a 70-54 win over host Bridgewater State College, this evening at the Tinsley Center.

Four players finished in double figures for the Lady Vikings who improved to 14-10 on the season and 7-4 in the MASCAC. Bridgewater falls to 13-10 overall and 8-3 in conference play.

Bridgewater jumped out to a 12-4 lead over the first five minutes of the game, but then watched as Salem dominated play the rest of the way. The Lady Vikings answered with a 23-2 run to take a 27-14 lead with seven minutes remaining in the opening half. Salem led 33-22 at the break and then put the game out of reach by outscoring the Bears 12-2 to start the second half. The Lady Vikings led by as much as 25 points on four different occasions in the final period.

Freshman center Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, MA) led the way for Salem as she posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She also added 3 blocks and 4 steals. Freshman guard Jakoya Wilkins (Dorchester, MA) also added 14 for the Lady Vikings while junior guard Melissa Macchi (Peabody, MA) and senior guard Shannon Murphy (Lynn, MA) scored 10 apiece.

Salem shot 54% (27-for-54) the game from the floor and 67% (8-for-12) from beyond the arc. Bridgewater on the other hand connected on just 32% (20-for-62) of their field goals including just 2 for 12 from three-point land.

Junior forward Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) posted a double-double for the Bears as she finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Feeney was 7 for 11 from the floor and also added 2 blocks and 2 steals. Senior forward Catie Furtado (Taunton, MA) chipped in with 13 points, 8 boards and 3 steals.

The regular season concludes on Saturday as the Bears host Fitchburg State at 5 o’clock, while the Lady Vikings are home against Worcester State beginning at 4.
