POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team nearly pulled a come-from-behind victory in the final minutes, but lost a pivotal game to Cortland, 67-65, at Welsh Gym. The defeat drops Potsdam (8-15, 5-9) to ninth place in the SUNYAC while Cortland (9-14, 5-9) moves into eighth, due to its 2-0 record against the Bears.
Sophomore Brandon Siskavich (Peru/Peru) scored 17 points and senior Scott Mitchell (Brushton/North Country CC) contributed 14 points, five assists and three steals. Sophomore Damon Brown (Staten Island/Port Richmond) added 11 points while senior Jehrod Hall (Syracuse/North Country CC) chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds.
Cortland freshman Mike Lewis (Brewerton/Paul V. Moore) led his team with 23 points and nine rebounds. Senior Dave Jutton (Red Hook/Red Hook) added 19 points and three assists.
Hall and Mitchell, both junior college transfers, were honored before the game as part of the “Senior Night” festivities at Maxcy Hall.
Potsdam will finish its SUNYAC schedule this weekend on the road. It will take on New Paltz (Friday, 8 p.m.) and Oneonta (Saturday, 4 p.m.).
