Wooster 76, Wabash 63

Hartford, Conn. — Sophomore Damon Brown (Staten Island/Port Richmond) scored 22 points and senior Tim Reinhardt (Hilton/Hilton) had 20 to lead the SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team past Framingham State, 85-66, in the Trinity College Invitational Tournament consolation game. Reinhardt also had eight rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament team.

Brown scored seven of Potsdam’s first eight points, including a 3-pointer which sparked a 13-2 run. He had 15 points in the opening period for the Bears (4-7, 1-1 SUNYAC), who held a 48-35 at halftime.

Senior Scott Mitchell (Brushton/North Country CC) had 17 points and four assists for Potsdam while fellow senior Jehrod Hall (Syracuse/North Country CC) contributed 10 rebounds and four assists. Brown added seven rebounds and four assists.

Statistically, the Bears dominated the contest. They outrebounded the Rams, 54-30, and made their free throws, shooting 22-for-24 from the stripe. Potsdam also finished with a season-high total of 23 assists.

Senior Derek Wigman (Pembroke, Mass./Silver Lake) led Framingham (6-5) with 19 points. Freshman Bill Carey (Abington, Mass./Abington) added 14 points and senior Ryan Dacey (Pembroke, Mass./Silver Lake) had 12.

Reinhardt finished the two-day tournament with 30 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists to earn his spot on the All-Tournament team. He was joined by Framingham’s Carey, Westfield sophomore David Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass./Boston College High) and three Trinity players: junior Russell Martin (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and seniors Patrick Martin (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and Kino Clarke (Lauderhill, Fla./Episcopal, Va.).

Host Trinity College defeated Westfield, 77-64, in the championship game. Tournament MVP Russell Martin had 22 points and seven rebounds.

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday at 8 p.m. when they resume their SUNYAC schedule in Utica against SUNYIT.
