Siskavich had 19 points and 10 rebounds while Dike added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Bears (3-5, 1-1 SUNYAC). Senior Scott Mitchell (Brushton/North Country CC) finished the game with 10 points and six assists, despite suffering a gash above his right eye while fighting for a loose ball.
Senior Tim Reinhardt (Hilton/Hilton) returned to the lineup after missing Tuesday’s game against St. Lawrence University with a broken nose. He played with a facemask and hauled down nine rebounds.
Potsdam had to hold off a late surge by Alfred (2-5). With 2:43 left, Mitchell hit a 3-pointer to give the Bears a 58-49 lead and it appeared the home team had the win in the big. However, the Saxons battled back – making the score 58-55 with 1:53 left – and had possession with a chance to tie.
After Alfred couldn’t find a way to cut any further into Potsdam’s lead, Siskavich and Mitchell helped put the game out of reach by making four free throws apiece.
The Saxons were led by junior Ryan Clemenson (Ovid/South Seneca), who had 18 points and nine rebounds. Senior Dillon Stein (North Huntington, Penn./Norwin) added 13 points and 14 rebounds while fellow senior Rob McCarter (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) put in 10 points.
The Bears will play again tomorrow against Ithaca College. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
