Hamline vs. UW-River Falls Dec 30
The Jumbos (7-1) will play host WPI Sunday at 3pm in the championship tilt. The Cardinals (1-7) will face Elms in the consolation game at 1pm. Earlier in the day, the Engineers defeated the Blazers 69-35.
Tufts, which shot nearly 42.5 percent in the first half, controlled the game virtually from the outset. After Plattsburgh’s Casey Clark (Athens, NY) hit a jumper to close the gap to 8-5, the Jumbos went on a scoring rampage, going on an 11-2 run that was highlighted by Taryn Miller-Stevens’ (Avon, CT) 3-pointer from the left corner. Kimberly Moynihan (West Hartford, CT) followed that hoop as she drove the lane for a layup on the Jumbos’ next trip downcourt.
With eight minutes left, Clark scored a basket as the shot clock expired, getting fouled in the process. She completed the old fashioned 3-point play, but Tufts responded by putting in 14 of the next 16 points, including a 3-pointer by Moynihan from just to the left of the top of the key.
Julia Baily (Farmington, CT), Valerie Krah (Mountain Lakes, NJ), Jenna Gomez (Norfolk, MA) and Laura Jasinki (Leverett, MA) also figured in the 14-2 run that helped the Jumbos open a 34-14 advantage at the break.
Krah led all scorers with 13 points and added three rebounds, while Jasinki added 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Miller-Stevens also had a game-high five assists.
For the Cardinals, Molly Harte (Troy, NY) came off the bench to lead the team with eight points and five rebounds, while Clark scored five points and hauled in a team-high six rebounds.
