Potsdam, Clarkson To Meet in NCI Final
POTSDAM, N.Y. – Sophomore Brandon Siskavich (Peru/Peru) scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team opened its season with an 82-57 win over Green Mountain College in the first round of the North Country Invitational. The Bears’ win puts them in the championship game against cross-town rival Clarkson, a 65-46 winner over Castleton State.
Senior Tim Reinhardt (Hilton/Hilton) contributed 15 points and six rebounds for Potsdam (1-0) while classmate Scott Mitchell (Bruston/North Country CC) added 13 points. Jehrod Hall (Syracuse/North Country CC), also a senior, hauled down nine rebounds and sophomore Alvin Dike (Bronx/Msgr. Scanlan) dished five assists.
A pair of Green Mountain freshmen led their team on the court. Aaron Brooks (New Haven, Conn.) scored 14 points while classmate Abraham Saccoh (New York) put in 12 points. Junior Alphonso Howlett (New York) contributed four assists for the Eagles (0-1).
Clarkson senior E.J. Harrison (Troy/LaSalle Institute) led his team with 16 points and eight rebounds in the tournament opener. Senior Jon Youngmann (Corinth/Corinth) added 12 points.
For Castleton State (0-1), senior Jeremy Jorgensen (Fairlee, Vt./Orford, N.H.) had 14 points and eight rebounds. Junior Joey Farley (Fairlee, Vt./Rivendell Academy) added 10 points, senior Matt Tomaino (Utica/Whitesboro) hauled down nine rebounds and junior Richard Reilly (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) made five assists.
Potsdam and Clarkson (1-0) will play the championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. The consolation game between Castleton State and Green Mountain will begin at 2.
