The SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team climbed back from
an 18-point deficit and senior Scott Mitchell (Brushton/North Country CC)
hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 52 seconds left to send the Bears past
previously-unbeaten Brockport, 98-95.
Senior Tim Reinhardt (Hilton/Hilton) scored 24 points and grabbed seven
rebounds to lead the Bears. Sophomore Damon Brown (Staten Island/Port
Richmond) played a huge role in the comeback – finishing with 21 points,
eight assists and four steals.
The Bears had three other scorers in double-figures. They were Mitchell,
who had 17 points and six assists, sophomore Brandon Siskavich
(Peru/Peru), who put in 14 points and Anthony Williams Jr.
(Brentwood/Upper Room Christian), who contributed 13 points.
Potsdam (2-4, 1-1) jumped to a 4-0 lead to start the game, but was quickly
backed down by a 16-2 run by the Golden Eagles (4-1, 1-1). The Bears
responded later in the first half with an 11-0 run – trimming Brockport’s
lead to 32-26, but the visitors finished the period strong and went into
the half with a 51-36 lead.
Brown, Reinhardt and Mitchell led the charge in the second half. Brown
scored 15 points, including 11 in the last five minutes. Reinhardt and
Mitchell added 14 each during the second.
