The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team fell to North Country rival St. Lawrence University, 73-48, at Maxcy Hall. Sophomore Megan Davis (Hammond/Hammond) and freshman Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) scored 11 points each for the Bears.
Poirier and fellow freshman Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) had four rebounds apiece for Potsdam (3-4, 0-2 SUNYAC), which never recovered from an 18-2 run by the Saints which made it 22-6 in the first half.
St. Lawrence sophomore Katie Palmer (Bourne, Mass./Falmouth Academy) led all scorers with 20 points, all of which came in the first half. Junior Jamie Wolff (Buffalo/Nardin Academy) added 17 points.
Also for the Saints, Palmer and senior Andrea Muszynski (Buffalo/Mt. Mercy) grabbed six rebounds each. Senior Brittany Gaetano (New Hartford/New Hartford) dished six assists.
Potsdam will return to action this weekend when it faces Alfred (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Ithaca (Saturday, 2 p.m.).
