POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Vassar's women's basketball team had a strong all-around effort Tuesday night in registering a convincing 82-49 win over Russell Sage College at the Athletics & Fitness Center. All ten players scored for the Brewers, who were led by a career-high 21 points and 14 rebounds by freshman forward Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME/South Portland).

With the win, the Brewers climb over the .500 mark with their third straight win and are 5-4 heading into Liberty League competition, beginning this Friday night against Skidmore College at 6:00 pm.

Russell Sage struck first in the contest with a jumper from junior Ashley Wojcicki (Broadalbin, NY), and the game remained close until the 15:31 mark. With the score at 10-8, the Brewers were sparked by a made free throw from Haeuser and a basket from junior Chelsea Katzenberg (Middlesex, VT/U-32) that set off a 34-12 Vassar run to finish the first half with a 44-20 advantage.

The Gators' senior forward Ashley Wetherell (Dalton, MA) scored 12 of her team-high 19 points in the first half but was quieted in the second half, as Vassar extended its lead with accurate shooting (53.1 percent on the game) and a number of steals on the defensive end. The Brewers had 31 points off the bench, led by freshman Emma Carmichael's (Brattleboro, VT/Brattleboro Union) 10 points and 9 rebounds and 8 points from Alison McSheehy (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood).

Russell Sage battled throughout the entire contest and closed out the game with a 16-13 run, capped by a three-pointer from freshman Amber Muir (Schenectady, NY).

Katzenberg finished the game with 9 points while sophomore Shannon Fuhr (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) netted 8 for the Brewers. Muir added 7 points for the Gators, whose record falls to 0-8. They travel to Western Connecticut State College for a game on Thursday at 7:00 pm. Vassar hopes to extend its win-streak to four when Skidmore comes into town on Friday for a 6:00 pm contest.
