Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 80, Hope International 56

POTSDAM, N.Y. — The SUNY Potsdam women’s basketball team opened the spring semester with a 74-37 win over Russell Sage at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. Sophomore Maureen Curley (Madrid/Madrid-Waddington) led the Bears with a strong all-around game – finishing with 12 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Freshman Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) was Potsdam’s leading scorer with 13 points. Sophomore Roberta Gibson (Brooklyn/Midwood) added 10 points for the Bears while Hannah Fairchild (Brushton/Brushton-Moira), also a sophomore, dished seven assists.

Potsdam (5-5, 0-2 SUNYAC) shot 60.0 percent from the field in the first half and used runs of seven, nine and 10 points to open up a 28-6 lead. The Bears also had an 11-point run in the second half.

Junior Ashli Fragomeni (Wynantskill) led the visiting Gators (0-7) with 13 points. Fellow junior Ashley Wojcicki (Broadalbin) grabbed eight rebounds.

The Bears will play their next game on Tuesday, January 9, at 6 p.m. They will travel to Utica and resume their SUNYAC schedule against SUNYIT.
