With the win, the Devils improved to 5-8 (1-3 Freedom Conference) while Lycoming dropped to 5-9 (0-4 Freedom Conference).
After playing to a 9-9 tie for the first six minutes, the Devils went on a 9-1 run to take an 18-10 lead with 10:58 left in the first half behind four points from freshman center Shannon Smith (Verona, NJ/Verona). The Warriors cut the deficit to four points, 29-25, with 2:18 left in the first but the Devils added a free throw to take a 30-25 lead into halftime.
Lycoming came out strong in the beginning of the second half, opening with a 12-5 run to take a 37-35 lead with 14:53 remaining in the game. The Devils weren’t discouraged, coming back to take a 38-37 lead on three points from Chalmers just two minutes later. That was the last time Lycoming would take the lead, as FDU went on a 13-6 run to take a 51-43 lead with 6:32 remaining. Sophomore guard Emily Cerankowski (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) had six points in the spurt. FDU kept the lead at no less than seven points for the remainder of the game en route to their first conference win.
Cerankowski led the way for FDU, finishing with 16 points and six rebounds. Smith added 12 points and six boards while freshman forward Danielle Michlovsky (Wind Gap, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had eight points and nine rebounds off the bench.
Freshman forward Rebecca Leid (Denver, PA/Cocalico) had 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for Lycoming while junior guard Michelle Wisla (Schwenksville, PA/Perkiomen) also had 11 points.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at Delaware Valley beginning at 6 pm.
