ALPINE, Tx. — Undefeated Howard Payne improved their season mark to 5 wins and no losses after Monday’s 63-48 conference win over the Sul Ross Lady Lobos at the Gallego Center.

Nitra Woods posted a team high 11 points and 8 rebounds in the loss while Janice Mitchell supplied 9 points.

Howard Payne sported 3 players in double figures led by Stacey Blalock’s 20 points. Meia Daniels and Kim Hoffman recorded 17 and 13 points respectively in the victory.

The Lady Lobos mustered 35.4 percent from the floor while connecting on 13 of 22 shots from the free throw line. HPU finished an even 39 percent from the field against Sul Ross while converting 16 of 22 shots from the line good for 72.7 percent.

Howard Payne put up a quick 14-2 run in the first five minutes of play. The Lady Jackets then went on a 25 point scoring spree. A mid range jumper by Stephanie Marshall pulled the Lady Lobos within 24 points trailing HPU 42-18 heading to the break.

Blalock kick-started the second half with a shot from the corner to expand the Lady Jacket lead 44-18 in the opening seconds of the half. The Lady Lobos pulled within 14 at the 5:54 mark but could not muster a sustainable drive the rest of the way.

Sully drops to 2-4 and 1-3 in conference play. The Lady Lobos will have a non conference bout with Fisk University in a noon tip Saturday in Brownwood. The Lady Lobos then return to conference action on December 16 and 18 against UT Dallas and UT Tyler in road play. Sully’s next home action will be January 4 as the Lady Lobos host Mississippi College.
