Carlisle, PA — Chelsey Gosse hit a free throw with three seconds left to help Wilkes University rally for a 60-59 win over Penn State Harrisburg in the opening round of the Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament at Dickinson College. The victory moves the Lady Colonels into Sunday’s championship game against the host Red Devils at 4:00 p.m.

Wilkes trailed 47-40 with less than six minutes to go before mounting a charge. Katie Cappelloni hit one of two free throws and Ashley Makarczyk canned a three-pointer to pull the Lady Colonels within 47-44. Randi Corbo would follow with a pair of charity tosses to make it 47-46 with 4:51 left.

The Lady Lions would extend their lead to 49-46 on two Nicole Adams free throws. However, Corbo knocked down a three-pointer to even the game at 49-49 with 4:27 showing on the clock.

Jamie Brindle and Jamie Bissot converted consecutive field goal attempts to put PSU Harrisburg back on top 51-47. Wilkes would follow with two free throws by Corbo and one by Chelsey Gosse to make it 53-52 with exactly two minutes remaining.

A Brindle jumper with 20 seconds left gave the Lady Lions a 59-56 advantage. Karyn Perestam then converted a traditional three-point play with only 11 ticks left to tie the game at 59-59.

After a timeout, the Lady Lions pushed the ball down the floor, but a shot was off the mark. Gosse snagged the rebound and was fouled. The sophomore hit the first free throw. She then missed the second attempt, but Cappelloni grabbed the board and dribbled out the clock.

Corbo led the Wilkes attack with 16 points. Perestam added 15 points and seven rebounds. Gosse was also in twin digits with 12 points and five rebounds.

PSU Harrisburg was paced by Brindle, who had 15 points. Brooke Conjar contributed 13 points and five assists, while Bissot had 11 tallies and a game-high 14 rebounds.
