With the win, R-MC improves to 8-6 overall, 3-4 in the ODAC and have now topped their rivals from Farmville seven consecutive times. H-SC falls to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the league.
Joining Carlson in double figures was Phil Hawley who had 11 points on five-of-nine shooting from the floor. Jeremy Dixon scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win while Adam Krovic chipped in with eight points of his own.
Four Tigers scored in double figures led by Tyler Murray who had a team high 14 points. Matt Green and Mike Edwards each had 12 points while Jyri Laakso had 10 in a losing effort.
Hampden-Sydney opened up an early lead, scoring the game's first eight points with Laakso and Murray each scoring four points.
R-MC battled back and with the score 13-11 in favor of the Tigers, the Yellow Jackets went on a 11-0 run that was capped off by a Dixon three-point play that put Randolph-Macon on top 21-13.
The Yellow Jacket lead grew to 16 when Adam Krovic connected on a three-pointer, making the score 39-23 with 1:45 left in the opening half.
Back-to-back buckets by Turner King and Murray cut the Yellow Jacket lead to 39-27 at the intermission.
Carlson opened the second-half scoring by knocking down a jumper that put R-MC up by 14. H-SC responded with a 10-0 run and a Drew Prehmus lay up made the score 41-37 with 15:22 to play.
R-MC answered back with a 10-3 run of its own and opened up an 11 point edge at 51-40 when Loren Sisson nailed a three-pointer with 11:42 remaining.
With the score 60-53, H-SC’s Mike Edwards scored on back-to-back possessions to bring the Tigers within three at 60-57 with 1:57 remaining.
After a missed lay up by Hawley on R-MC’s next possession, Murray scored to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to 60-59 with 1:08 left in the game.
The Yellow Jackets missed the front end of a one-and-one next time down the floor but Edwards was not able to connect on the other end for H-SC as Dixon came down with the rebound of Edwards’ shot to seal the win for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon shot 46 percent (23-of-50) for the game and recorded 19 assists on 23 made field goals. R-MC's bench out scored H-SC's reserves 19-6 in the victory.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on January 17 when they travel to Bridgewater College for a 7:00 p.m. ODAC game. The Tigers will play on Wednesday when they welcome Lynchburg College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
