SALEM. VA — The Randolph-Macon College men’s basketball team captured its fourth game in a row with a 78-55 ODAC road win over Roanoke College Sunday afternoon in Salem, Va.

R-MC is now 13-8 overall and 8-6 in league play. Phil Hawley came off the bench for the Jackets to post a game-high 17 points. Jeremy Dixon and David Carlson each scored 15 for R-MC, which won the rebounding battle 40-25, with Carlson grabbing a game-high nine boards.

The Maroons took an early lead on an AJ Dowell cut to the basket and layup, but the Yellow Jackets quickly tied the score on a Jeremy Dixon short jumper in the lane. Following a Maroon turnover, Boris Varela hit a three-pointer from the wing to give the Yellow Jackets the lead for good. RMC made its next four shots from the field, the fourth an Adam Krovic three from the corner to give the visitors a 15-9 lead.

Krovic’s three was the first of three consecutive three-point field goals for the Yellow Jackets, a run that Andre Hunter capped with a shot that gave RMC a 21-10 lead.

The Randolph-Macon lead got out to as many as 13 early in the game, but the Maroons battled back and with 8:52 left in the first were within 25-20. A 13-2 R-MC run gave the Jackets a comfortable 16-point lead and at the break the Yellow Jackets led 46-31.

R-MC continued to build on its lead in the second-half by opening up the second period with a 12-2 run that was capped off by jumper from Carlson, making the score 58-33 with 13:45 left in the ball game.

The R-MC lead grew to as many as 30 when Stephen Sutherland knocked down a three-point basket with 9:51 left, making the score 67-37 in favor of the Jackets.
