MADISON, N.J. — Drew men’s basketball couldn’t keep pace with a hot shooting King’s Monarchs squad and dropped a Freedom Conference match, 80-40, in Baldwin Gym. The Monarch’s shot 62% from the field in the first half and 61% for the game as they never let the Rangers into the game. Ryan Nenstiel scored 21 on 8-10 shooting (5-6 from three) and Jamie Cousart had 11 points and four assists. Drew had 12 players score, but were led by Chris Lopez’s six points. The Rangers fell 9-13, 4-8 while King’s improves to 16-7, 10-2 in the Freedom.

The Monarchs jumped out to a big 41-20 lead in the first half. Nenstiel did most of the damage with 16 points on 6-7 shooting and four of four from behind the arc. Jamie Cousart had eight as the Monarchs hit on 15-24 shots in the half, 7-9 of their three point attempts.

The second half was a similar story as 59% shooting from King’s prevented a Ranger rally. Drew, which had moved up to 8th in the nation in scoring defense this week, gave up the second most points they’ve allowed this season. On the bright side, Billy McGuigan scored his first collegiate point, Travis DiNapoli drilled a three and Jared Coleman had three points and four rebounds in limited play. Phil Herro scored two points on a breakaway dunk.

The Ranger return to action on Tuesday with Senior Night (and 70s Night!) against FDU.
