Las Vegas, NV — Freshman Kelly Magrann scored a game-high 16 points to lead a balanced attack that included five Bulldogs in double figures as the DeSales University women’s basketball team rolled past Marietta College, 77-44, in the opening game at the Adidas Division III Desert Shootout on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas, NV.

DeSales (6-3 overall) used a 16-2 run over the last 4:13 of the first half to extend a nine-point lead into a 23-point cushion, 42-19, at the break. During the spurt senior Kirby Lutz tallied the first six points and Magrann added five points including one three-pointer. The second half was all Bulldogs, extending its lead to as many as 36 points before settling for the final 33-point margin.

Magrann was sensational, pouring in a season-high 16 points that included nine in the first half and saw her shoot 6-for-12 from the field. Fellow freshman Caitlin Miller was equally impressive off the bench recording her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

One day after her 22nd birthday, Lutz tallied her seventh career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 13 boards, junior Amanda Kuperavage also totaled 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while sophomore LeighAnn Burke rounded out the double digit scoring with 12 points, 10 of which came in the opening half.

Burke and fellow sophomore Kim Rarick each dished out five assists and Rarick swiped a game-high five steals in the win.

Marietta (1-9 overall) was led by Jamie Beckett who recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Justine Pagenhardt added 12 points in the loss.
