With the win, Eastern Mennonite improves to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC while Randolph-Macon drops to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Parkes, who scored 22 points on the night, was joined in double figures by Jason Sager who had a game-high 24 points on the evening. LeRoger Harris (14 points) and John Overstreet (10 points) both scored in double figures as well for EMU.
Phil Hawley posted a season-high 18 points in a losing effort for Randolph-Macon. Hawley also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Boris Varela (13 points), Justin Short (12 points), Stephen Sutherland (11 points) and Adam Krovic (11 points) all scored in double figures as well.
With EMU up 68-66 with 27 seconds remaining in regulation, Hawley converted a lay up to tie the game. The Royals had a shot to win the game but Jared Lyons’ jumper fell short sending the game into overtime.
In the extra session, the lead changed hands four times. Varela put R-MC up 77-75 with 2:05 remaining. Parkes tied the game with 59 seconds left and then won the game on EMU’s next possession after the Royals forced an R-MC turnover.
After Parkes’ go ahead lay up, R-MC had a shot to win, but is three point attempt failed and Austin Twin converted one-of-two free-throws to seal the game for EMU.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on December 17 when it hosts the Hal Nunnally December Classic. The Yellow Jackets will take on Methodist at 4:00 p.m. while Gettysburg and Union will square off at 2:00 p.m.
