St. Thomas 75, Augsburg 57

Reading, PA — Sophomore Ed Lapinski scored a career-high 21 points to lead the DeSales University men’s basketball team past PSU-Berks, 99-70, in a non-conference game on Monday evening.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 15-4 overall, while PSU-Berks falls to 3-14 overall. DSU shot 54.8 percent for the game and held a 45-27 edge on the glass in the win.

DSU jumped out early opening up a 34-13 lead with 8:20 to go in the first half and led by 18 points, 50-32, at the break. The Nittany Lions made a run at the lead coming out of the locker room cutting the margin to six points, 52-46, with 15:28 to go but DSU responded with a 12-4 run to push the lead back up to 15 points and cruised the rest of the way.

Lapinski shot 8-for-11 from the field and grabbed a team-high six rebounds in the win. He was joined in double figures by junior Jamie McCloskey who had 13 points, junior Phil Stricker with 12 points and freshman Darnell Braswell with 12 points.

Junior Eddie Ohlson totaled seven points and dished out nine assists to become just the second player in men’s basketball history to record 400+ assists in a career. Senior Steve Kriczky finished with nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots in the win.

PSU-Berks was led by Joe Askew who had 15 points, Adam Fusco with 11 points and Rashad Allen with 10 points to round out the double figure scoring.
