Sul Ross saw over a ten percent improvement in shooting from last Saturday’s 35 percent floor showing against UTPB to 48 percent against the Lady Eagles. The Lady Lobos also saw an upswing in free throws converting 17 of 21 foul shots good for 81 percent .
Senior floor general Danielle Furr chalked up 21 points in the effort. Furr bingoed on 7 of 14 shots from the floor including a 1 for 2 performance from three-point range. She also converted 6 of 7 free throws. Junior Nitra Woods supplied 11 points against Ozarks and tallied a team high 8 rebounds in Monday night’s affair.
Ozarks had the lead the entire outing holding off the Lady Lobo rally as Sul Ross pulled within 3 twice late in the first half. Ozarks went to the break sporting a 40-33 advantage. Sully pulled within four just seconds into the second half as DeShonna Hill nailed a 3-point shot to narrow the gap 40-36.
Ozarks took two 17-point surges to stifle the Sul Ross comeback and take the 74-61 final.
The Lady Lobos drop to 1-2 for the season and 0-1 in ASC play. Sully returns to the friendly confines of the Gallego Center for a 3-game home stretch beginning with a 5:30 p.m. conference tip against LeTourneau Thursday evening. The Lady Lobos will then host East Texas Baptist at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Howard Payne at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
