ALPINE, Tx. — ALPINE, Tx.- A double double showing by Nitra Woods helped lift the Sul Ross Lady Lobos to a 60-58 non conference win over NCAA Division II UT Permian Basin Saturday at the Gallego Center.

Woods posted 28 points while adding a second team-high 12 boards. She posted a 9-13 performance from the floor while hitting 10 of 14 free throws. Danielle Furr and DeShonna Hill contributed 8 points in the win while Celesta Perkins put up a team high 12 rebounds. Hill joined the double-figure trio with 10 rebounds against the Lady Falcons.

Callie Smith led UTPB with 20 points while Ashley Cunningham supplied 10 rebounds.

Sul Ross shot 35 percent from the floor while converting 17 of 36 foul shots for the game which was good for 47.2 percent.

The Lady Lobos rallied from a 10 point deficit to tie the game at 23 with 3:05 left until intermission. The Lady Falcons assembled a 5-4 run but went to the break trailing Sul Ross 29-28.

UTPB took the lead 10 seconds into the second half to go on top 30-29. Sully then unraveled a 14-0 run to go up by 13 leading 49-36 with 11:01 left in regulation. The Lady Falcons tied the game at 57 with 2:45 left in the game. A Janice Mitchell jumper put Sul Ross back on top by two points, 60-58 with 1:11 left in the second half. UTPB shot 0-3 in the waning moments of the contest to give the Lady Lobos the 60-58 victory.

Sul Ross improves to 1-1 on the season and will open conference play on Monday against University of the Ozarks in a 5:30 p.m. contest from Clarksville, Arkansas.
