R-MC (7-4) was led by tournament MVP Justin Short who had 13 points and seven assists in the win. Fellow all-tournament member Phil Hawley posted 16 points while David Carlson notched 15 points and a game-high nine boards. The Yellow Jackets shot 63 percent (23-of-43) from the floor in the victory.
UW-Platteville (7-3) got double digit performances from Charlie Lohoff (19 points), Mike Shaw (11 points) and Kyle Tetschlang (10 points).
The Pioneers got out to an early lead, opening up a 15-5 advantage when Lohoff connected on a lay up with 15:10 left in the first-half.
With the score 20-11, R-MC went on a 16-6 run to take the lead and opened up a 33-29 advantage when Carlson knocked down a jumper with 2:08 left in the fist stanza.
R-MC took a 33-31 advantage into the intermission before UWP came out in opening minutes of the second-half, tied the game and then took the lead on a three-pointer by Curt Hanson, making the 41-38 with 16:06 left in the game.
With the Pioneers leading 48-45, R-MC reeled off a 16-1 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Carlson that put the Yellow Jackets up 58-49 with 7:24 remaining in the game.
UWP fought back with a 12-3 run and tied the game at 62-62 when Lohoff made one-of-two free-throws with 1:57 left.
On R-MC’s ensuing possession, Carlson knocked down his third shot from behind the arc on the night to put the Yellow Jackets up three with 1:12 remaining.
Mike Jamieson pulled UWP to within one at 65-64 with a lay up on the Pioneers’ next possession.
After Carlson converted one-of-two free-throws with 12 seconds left to make the score 66-64, the Pioneers had a shot to tie the game but the Yellow Jackets forced a turnover and Adam Krovic sealed the win with a pair of free-throws on the other end of the court.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on January 6 when it hosts Guilford College at 2:00 p.m.
