BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — In MASCAC women’s basketball action this afternoon from the Tinsley Center, senior forward Catie Furtado (Taunton, MA) poured in a game-high 26 points while adding 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks and 3 assists, as the Bridgewater State College Bears picked up a convincing 95-63 win over visiting Framingham State.

With the win, BSC improves to 11-9 on the season and 6-2 in the MASCAC, while Framingham falls to 6-12 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

Furtado, who shot 12 of 18 from the floor, was one of five Bears to finish in double-figures. Junior forward Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI), collected 9 rebounds and put up 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting. Colleen’s sister, junior guard Caitlin Feeney (Providence, RI), chipped in with 12 points and a game-high 9 assists. Junior guards Justine Farroba (N. Attleboro, MA) and Melissa Murphy (Rockland, MA) contributed 12 and 11 points apiece, while dishing out 5 assists and 6 assists respectively. They also combined to shoot 7 for 8 from three-point range.

Framingham State took an early 2-0 lead after tip-off, but that would be the last time the Bears would find themselves trailing. BSC went on a 14-2 run midway through the half to take a 27-12 advantage. Bridgewater upped the lead to 34-19 with seven minutes to go, but Framingham responded with a 9-2 run of their own to cut the deficit to single digits (36-28) with three minutes left in the stanza. BSC, however, closed out the half by scoring 10 of the final 12 points of the opening stanza to take a 46-30 lead into the locker room. The Bears shot 63% (20-for-32) from the field in the first half, including 4 of 5 from three-point range.

The second half also belonged to Bridgewater State, as they continued to shoot the lights out, connecting on 17 of 25 field goal attempts, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. The Bears opened up their largest lead of the game at 32 points with six minutes to go in the contest, and coasted to the victory. The Rams were held to just 31% (19-for-61) shooting for the game, whereas the Bears shot 65% (37-for-57) from the floor and 80% (8-for-10) from three-point range. Bridgewater committed 24 fouls in the game giving Framingham the edge at the free-throw line, and also turned the ball over 29 times. BSC, however, finished with 10 blocked shots, registered 18 steals and forced 30 turnovers.

Leading the way for Framingham State was freshman guard Toya Chester (Leominster, MA). Chester finished with 16 points, 6 boards and 3 assists. Also helping the Rams was junior forward Christina Bordini (Chelmsford, MA), who notched 14 points and collected 5 rebounds on the afternoon. Sophomore guards Allie Hart (Somerset, MA) and Katelyn Pacheco (Acushnet, MA) finished in double-figures for FSC as well as they registered 14 points and 11 points respectively.

The MASCAC schedule resumes for the BSC next Tuesday night as the Bears travel to MCLA to take on the Trailblazers at 5:30. Framingham is also back in action on Tuesday as the Rams host Worcester State at 5:30.
