With the loss, FDU ends the season with a record of 10-15 (4-10 Freedom Conference).
King’s opened up the game with a 7-2 lead before the Devils tied it at 7-7 with just over three minutes gone by in the game. That was the last time the game was tied as FDU never held a lead in the game. The Monarchs opened up a 25-13 lead with 12:31 left in the first half behind three three-pointers by sophomore guard Kaitlyn Fiorino (North Brunswick, NJ/Immaculata). FDU responded with an 11-4 run over the next seven minutes to cut the deficit to 28-24 with 5:07 remaining. However, King’s regained their momentum and went into the intermission leading 36-29.
King’s came out to start the second half and scored the first four points to take an 11 point lead, 40-29. The Devils kept fighting though, cutting the lead to five, 47-42, with 12:17 left in the game thanks to six points from sophomore guard Emily Cerankowski (Easton, PA/Notre Dame). That was the Devils last real threat as the Monarchs immediately got the lead back up to 10 behind a three pointer from senior forward Casey Heitman (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional) and a bucket by Hochstuhl. King’s kept the lead in double digits for the majority of the rest of the game with FDU cutting it to eight points on three different occasions, however the Devils couldn’t get over the hump as King’s held on for the win.
Fiorino finished with 18 points for King’s while Heitman chipped in 14 points. Cerankowski had 28 points and six rebounds for the Devils and senior guard Jessie Chalmers (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) had 18 points in her last game.
