Lamar Burton-Norman's pullup jumper in the lane with 2.1 seconds left lifted UW-Superior to a 69-67 win at UW-Platteville Saturday. Mike Jamerson's half-court shot hit the backboard and bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded.
The short-handed Pioneers, who started four guards and Kyle Tetschlag at forward, took a 65-55 lead with 5:45 to play on Jamerson's three-point shot. The Pioneers, however, would not get another field goal as the Yellowjackets battled back.
UW-Superior tied the game at 65 on Nick Messner's jumper with 1:05 to play. After Tetschlag made two free throws with 49 seconds to play, Messner tied the score again with 36 seconds left on a shot in the lane.
The Pioneers missed a shot, and Messner and Tetschlag tied up going for the rebound. The possession arrow went to the Yellowjackets, who worked the ball down to seven seconds before calling timeout. Burton-Norman drove the right side of the lane, pulled up and knocked down the winning shot.
UW-Superior improved to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pioneers, without injured front-line players Jeff Skemp and Mark Gossens, fell to 7-5, 2-3.
UWP sophomore Charlie Lohoff led all scorers with 22 points, making all three of his three-point attempts. Freshman Mike Shaw added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Jamerson finished with 15 points.
Leonard Cobb had 14 points for the Yellowjackets, while Brandon Ely had 11, and Jason Proue and Messner 10 each.
