The contest remained close through the first half and midway through the second half before Waynesburg mounted an 8-0 run, which featured back-to-back three-pointers from senior guard Katie Lewandowski.
Lewandowski led all players with a season-high 19 points despite shooting just four-of-15 from the floor. However, the second-year starter made 9-of-12 attempts from the charity stripe.
Waynesburg led 50-42 with 1:15 remaining in the game after Lewandowski hit a pair of free throws. However, 15 seconds later the Bobcats trimmed the deficit to four points, 50-46, after a three-pointer and a free throw.
The Yellow Jackets retook an eight-point lead after senior Jenna Pratte and sophomore Michaelene Jones both converted their free-throw attempts in the final minutes. UPG was only able to cut the lead back down with three free throws in the closing seconds.
Free-throws helped determine the contest, as both teams struggled from the field, shooting 28 percent. As a team, Waynesburg made 19-of-24 free-throw attempts (79.2 percent), while Pitt-Greensburg managed to connect on only 57.9 percent (11-of-19) of its attempts
Pratte and freshman Johnna Deco each finished with seven points, while Jones added six points and a team-high nine rebounds. Senior forward Denise Kennedy contributed five points and seven rebounds in the win.
The Yellow Jackets return to action following the Thanksgiving holiday on Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Holiday Inn Tournament hosted by St. John Fisher in Rochester, N.Y.
