“I was happy for our kids that we came back,” Albion head coach Doreen Carden said. “We got them out of their offense by pressing and then dropping back into a zone. I think we wore them down at the end.”
John Carroll scored the first 10 points of the game and held a 28-10 lead when Laura Gruber sank a layup with 7:47 left in the first half.
Albion outscored John Carroll 20-3 over the final seven minutes of the first half to close the deficit to 31-30 as the teams headed to their locker rooms at halftime. Megan Garvey scored a basket and two free throws and Babcock added seven points on a jumper, two free throws, and a three-point field goal to ignite the rally.
John Carroll scored the first five points of the second half to build a 36-30 cushion.
Till scored on consecutive possessions, Autumn Charnley scored a layup, and Babcock knocked down a jumper as Albion claimed its first lead of the game 4 ˝ minutes into the second half.
Albion took control of the game with a 9-0 run. Emi Guimond scored a layup, Amy Aemisegger added a 3-point field goal, Till scored on a jumper, and Babcock sank a pair of free throws. Albion’s lead ballooned to double digits as Garvey sank a layup to make the score 53-43 with 5:43 left.
Albion connected on 41 percent of its shots from the field and 94 percent of its opportunities from the free throw line. Babcock sank all eight of her shots from the line.
The Britons will try to give Carden the 100th victory of her coaching career this weekend as the squad travels to Wilmington, Ohio for the Fred Raizk Classic.
