OLIVET, Mich. — Four days removed from its biggest win of the year over No. 4 Hope College, the Albion College women’s basketball team came out flat in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest at Olivet College Wednesday night.

The Britons shot just 23.5 percent from the field as Olivet claimed to a 47-34 victory in a crucial matchup of third-place teams in the league.

Albion fell to 10-8 overall and 5-5 in the MIAA while Olivet improved to 9-8, 6-4.

The 34 points was a season-low for the Britons - their previous low was 51 points in a loss at Alma. First-year guard Brittany Kemperman was the lone bright spot for the Britons, scoring 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

Senior forward Jessica Babcock added seven points. Kemperman (5-for-9) was the lone Briton to shoot better than 50 percent from the field.

The Britons also committed 19 turnovers, which led to 17 Olivet points.

Olivet jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and never trailed. The closest Albion got was 9-6 on a Babcock layup almost midway through the first half, but Olivet finished the half with an 11-5 spurt to take a 20-11 lead into the locker room.

Olivet outscored Albion 11-4 to begin the second half to extend its lead to 31-13. The Comets took their biggest lead of the night, 39-21, with 10:16 to play in the game.

Audrey Graham led the Comets with 17 points and Stephanie Smith added 13.

The Britons will continue MIAA play on Saturday when they return home to take on Alma College at 3 p.m.
