Buena Vista 75, Luther 73

ANGOLA, Ind. — Junior forwards Emi Guimond and Kati Till scored seven points apiece in the second half as the Albion College women’s basketball team pulled away for a 86-53 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Tri-State University.

Albion opened the second half with a 17-3 run as the Britons’ 37-32 halftime lead ballooned to 54-35 with 12 minutes remaining in the game. Stephani Croad ignited the Briton rally with a jumper and a 3-point goal, and Autumn Charnley and Chelsea Gray followed with baskets in the lane. Till scored two baskets, Guimond added a free throw, and Amy Aemisegger knocked down a 3-point goal to complete the run.

Albion led by at least 13 points the rest of the way as the Britons scored on 54 percent of their shots from the field (19-of-35) in the second half, while Tri-State fell to 21 percent shooting (6-of-29) after hanging in the game with 48 percent marksmanship (14-of-29) in the first half.

The Britons finished the game shooting a season-best 50.7 percent (35-of-69) from the field.

Katie Elder did not miss a shot (5-of-5 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line) in the first half, scoring all of her team-high 14 points in the opening 20 minutes. Croad and Guimond finished with 11 points each. Till posted nine points and Charnley, the Britons’ point guard, grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Albion (7-7 overall, 2-4 MIAA) returns home Wednesday, Jan. 10 for a 7:30 p.m. game against Kalamazoo College.
