ADRIAN, Mi. — A 16-3 first half run propelled the nationally-ranked Calvin women's basketball team to a 70-47 victory at Adrian Tuesday evening, allowing the Knights to stretch their winning streak to six games.

Ranked 15th in the latest D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, Calvin (9-1 overall, 3-0 MIAA) trailed 18-14 with five minutes left in the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers by Calvin sophomore Kristi Brummel then ignited a 16-3 run, allowing the Knights to take a 30-21 halftime lead.

In the second half, Calvin took a double-digit lead for good on a layup inside by senior center Lisa Winkle at the 13:30 mark and moments later, Brummel and freshman guard Allison Griswold swished back-to-back trifectas, giving the Knights a commanding 47-28 advantage. Adrian never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way as the Knights were able to cruise down the stretch to victory.

Brummel led the Knights with 14 points off the bench, connecting on all four of her three-point field goal attempts. Brummel led a Calvin bench brigade that outscored Adrian's reserves 41-22. Griswold, sophomore Sarah Partridge and freshman Brook VanEck also added seven points apiece off the bench. Calvin starters Lisa Winkle and Marcia Harris also scored 11 points each with Winkle grabbing nine rebounds and collecting a game-high seven assists. Junior post Rachael Willett also had six points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Knights.

Adrian (6-5 overall, 1-3 MIAA) was led in defeat by freshman Kim Olech with 10 points.

Adrian shot just 33.9 percent overall and turned the ball over 23 times. Calvin shot 45 percent overall including 51 percent in the first half. The Knights also picked up 20 assists on the evening with junior Nikki Zimmerman also collecting five assists for the Maroon and Gold.

The victory over Adrian kicks off a busy week of action for Calvin as it will host Albion on Thursday (7:30 p.m.) and travel to Saint Mary's on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) for conference games.
