Leading 45-22 at the start of the second period Hopkins went on a 16-8 run to extend its lead to 61-30. That run that last for the first nine minutes of the half was highlighted by seven points from junior Andrea Dodrill and five points from Miller. Trailing with 10 minutes to go in the game, Washington proceeded to close the game on a 29-16 to make the final deficit 77-59. During that run for the Shorewomen, Jane O’Donnell had 15 of the Shorewomen’s 29 points.
The Blue Jays held a 23 point lead at the half thanks to a series of first half runs. Hopkins opened the game on a 6-0 run behind four points from Miller. The Blue Jays had seven points from Miller in the first seven minutes of the game and led 19-6 with 13:10 remaining in the first half. Hopkins then used a 24-14 run to close out the first half and hold that 23 point lead at the break. Miller had her second straight double-double at halftime as she recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds in the first half.
O’Donnell finished with a team-high 17 points while LaToya Turner added 13. Brianne Slizofski contributed 10 points while Brenda Lucas was the Shorewomen’s leading rebounder with five.
Miller needs just 13 more points to finish with 1,000 for her career after a 16 point and 14 rebound night. Dodrill scored a career-high 19 points while Haley Wojdowski finished with 10 points and tied for the team lead in assists with five. Jenna Berninger had a solid night with eight points and tied for the team lead in assists (5) with only one turnover.
The Blue Jays are back in action on Saturday, December 9th when they travel to Chicago to take on the University of Chicago Maroons at 2 p.m.
