GLASSBORO, N.J. — Elizabethtown College defeated Rowan University 73-67 in the championship game of the Rowan University Holiday Inn Runnemede Tip-Off Tournament Saturday. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 1999-00 season, and Elizabethtown is now five wins away from becoming the first NCAA Division III program to reach the 900 all-time win plateau.

Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Co.) poured in 33 points to lead the Blue Jay offense, and she tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven. Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) came off the bench to score 13 points and tie for the team lead in steals with three. Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) led Etown in assists with five and tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven and in steals with three.

Nicole Perrini and Ashley Cieplicki each led Rowan (1-1) in scoring with 14 points apiece, and Cieplecki added seven rebounds. Lauren Byrne led Rowan in rebounds with 10 and scored six points. Brynn DeGroff scored 13 points for Rowan, and Kristina Wallace had nine assists and six points.

Elizabethtown shot 46.3% (25-for-54) from the field, while Rowan shot 39.1% (27-for-69). Rowan out-fouled Elizabethtown 19-13, and as a result, Elizabethtown hit 17 out of 22 (77.3%) free throws, while Rowan made seven of just nine (77.8%) free throw attempts. Rowan held a 42-34 advantage in rebounding, while Elizabethtown held an 11-8 edge in steals.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Tuesday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. against Immaculata University. It is the Blue Jays’ 2006-07 home opener.
