The Flying Dutchmen pushed their record to 8-2, and they have matched their longest winning streak since late in the 2004-05 season. The Lions fell to 5-4.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at Embry-Riddle University, the host of the Land of Magic Classic. However, due to a tornado that struck the university’s athletic center on Christmas day, all of the games were moved to nearby Seabreeze High School.
Curran, who entered the game with 999 points, tied a game-high with 17 points while becoming Lebanon Valley’s 30th 1,000-point scorer. Senior guard Hunter Bretschneider tied Curran with 17 points while sophomore guard Dan Hodge notched eight points off the bench. Sophomore guard Kyle Enoch tied a career-high six assists while junior forward Peter Ruth posted a team-leading six rebounds.
Don Binda led Penn State Behrend with 13 points in 10 minutes off the bench while Kevin Buckysnki recorded 12 points.
The Dutchmen shot 42.5% from the field and went 18-for-22 at the foul line. Curran made 7 of 8 free throws while Bretschneider finished 6-for-7 at the line.
The Lions, who shot a near-identical 41.5%, converted just 10 of 20 free throws.
Lebanon Valley led 24-20 at the half before pulling away late in the game. It was a five-point game (35-30) 11:12 left before a 10-4 LVC run made it 45-34 with 5:24 on the clock. The Lions were unable to get to trim the deficit under nine the rest of the way.
