ANNVILLE, Pa. — Lebanon Valley erased a 10-point second-half deficit, but Dickinson College held the Valley to a pair of free throws in the final 4:17 as the Red Devils posted a 52-47 victory in a non-conference women’s basketball game Tuesday evening at the LVC Gymnasium.

It was the third straight loss for Lebanon Valley (6-13), which tied the game at 45-all on a put-back from junior guard Jenna Gambino with 4:18 left. But Dickinson (16-4) took the lead for good on a Piper Etess lay-up with 3:18 left, and that would turn out to be the final field goal of the game for either team.

After holding the Red Devils scoreless on three straight trips down the court, the Dutchmen had a chance to tie the game when, after a time-out, junior guard Donna Geiger drove down the left side of the lane for a lay-up with 34 seconds left. But her shot came up short, and senior guard Jess Howard rebounded for Dickinson. Four seconds later, junior guard Carly Onkotz hit a pair of free throws to make it a four-point (49-45) game.

Sophomore guard Amie Bickert answered with a pair of foul shots for Lebanon Valley with 12 seconds to go, and it was still a one-possession game (50-47) after Kay Binetti went 1-for-2 at the line with 10 seconds left. However, the Valley was unable to get off a shot after committing a turnover. The Dutchmen were forced to foul Binetti again, and this time she iced the game by making both of her free throws with four ticks showing to set the final score.

Etess led Dickinson with 15 points while junior forward Laura Houseal had 13 points and nine rebounds. Howard handed out seven assists for the Devils.

Lebanon Valley did not have a player reach double figures in scoring, although nine players scored at least one point. Senior forward Monica Johnson led the way with nine points and seven rebounds.

Lebanon Valley trailed for most of the first half before rallying to take the lead late in the period. Dickinson started the game on a 10-3 run, and the Red Devils led 17-12 with 7:50 on the clock following an Ally Teatom lay-up. But that’s when the Valley reeled off a 12-2 run to go in front 24-19 with 2:42 to go. Freshman Jill Ryba tied the game at 19-all with a 3-pointer, then senior guard Allie Butler gave LVC its first lead (22-19) of the night with a trey of her own with 3:18 left in the opening period.

Kay Binetti knocked down a jumper for Dickinson with 1:12 remaining, making it a 26-23 game at the half.

The Dutchmen connected on 50.0% of their shots in the first half while holding Dickinson to 37.0% shooting.

Dickinson came out strong at the start of the second half, outscoring LVC 13-3 to open the period. An Onkotz 3-pointer gave the Devils a 36-29 lead with 15:44 to go, and the visitors’ lead reached double figures (41-31) when Houseal made a pair of free throws with 9:16 remaining. But that’s when Lebanon Valley put together its second rally of the night.

A 12-1 Dutchman run, capped by a conventional three-point play from freshman guard Cassie Moore with 4:57 left, gave the Valley its first lead (43-42) since the 17:28 mark of the second half. Etess tied the game 43-43 on a free throw with 4:40 to go before Gambino’s put-back.

Lebanon Valley shot 41.9% for the game, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. The Dutchmen also nailed 8 of 10 free throws. Dickinson shot just 37.3%, including a 15.4% mark from 3-point range, and was 12-for-18 at the foul line. However, the Devils collected 14 offensive rebounds and forced 22 turnovers.
