BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Moravian College men’s basketball team dropped their final non-conference game before a 23-day break, falling to Kean University of New Jersey, 96-91, in Johnston Hall Monday evening.

The game went back and forth in the first half with Moravian building a six-point lead at 23-17 with 9:32 on the clock on a three-point play by junior forward Mark Franzyshen. The Cougars put together a 17-6 run to take their largest lead of the first half, five points at 34-29 with 4:18 to play until the intermission. Moravian made ten free throws in the final three minutes of the first half to head to the locker room with a 43-42 lead.

The Greyhounds didn't shoot well from the floor in the first 20 minutes, making just 12 of 32 field goal attempts (37.5 percent) and one of nine three-pointers; however, Moravian was 18 of 19 (94.7 percent) at the foul line. Kean made 16 of 31 field goal attempts, three of ten three-pointers and seven of nine free throws in the first half. Moravian also had a 22-15 advantage on the boards in the first 20 minutes.

The Greyhounds came out of the locker room quickly in the second half and built an eight-point edge, 54-46 with 16:19 on the clock. An 11-2 run by Kean, put the Cougars up 57-56 with 13:11 left in the second half. The game would go back and fourth for several minutes before Moravian tied the contest at 66-66 on a pair of free throws by junior guard Ryan Miller with 10:16 to play.

Kean then had another 11-2 run to take a 77-68 lead with 7:06 remaining. The Cougars eventually pushed the lead to ten points, 85-75 with 3:58 left on the clock. The Greyhounds would get within four points twice in the final 35 seconds but could get no closer. Kean continued to shot the ball well in the second half, making 19 of 32 field goals, three of five three-pointers and 13 of 21 free throws, while the Greyhounds continued to struggle.

Moravian was 16 of 40 (40.0 percent) from the floor in the second half, five of 14 behind the three-point line (35.7 percent) and 11 of 14 on free throws (78.6 percent). The Greyhounds did finish the game with a 48-35 edge in rebounds including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds; however, Moravian had 30 turnovers in the game.

The Greyhounds had a season high five players in double figures, led by Franzyshen, who tied his career high with a game high 20 points. Franzyshen added seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a ten-for-12 performance at the foul line. Senior guard Michael Clemente tossed in a career high 19 points for Moravian with six assists, five three-pointers and three steals while Miller had 17 points, six assists and three rebounds while shooting a perfect 11-for-11 at the foul line.

Junior forward Steve Wenderfer added a double-double for the Greyhounds with 12 rebounds and 11 points while junior forward Chris Earley had ten points. Junior forward Eric Whitman contributed ten rebounds, six points and two steals while junior guard Greg Jones and senior forward Matt Devlin each scored four points for Moravian.

Kean also had five players in double figures led by 19 points from senior forward Bryan Keller, who also had eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Junior guard William Floyd contributed 15 points while senior guard Bryan Miller added 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Cougars.

Senior guard Lamar Wright had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists while junior guard Anthony Virgil had 11 points, three assists and three steals for Kean. Senior guard/forward Brett Wyatt contributed nine points, six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for the Cougars.
