READING, Pa. — Annie McMahon sank a pair of free throws with 13 seconds to give Albright the lead for the only time in the second half as the Lady Lions pulled out a 51-50 win over Susquehanna in Commonwealth Conference action Wednesday evening in the Bollman Center. Albright has won seven straight games and is 6-1 in conference play through the first half of the schedule. The Lady Lions are 13-5 overall. Susquehanna sees its record fall to 3-4 in the conference and 12-6 overall.

Albright trailed by a point, 50-49, after Jackie Hardwick made one of two free throws with 40 seconds remaining in regulation time. McMahon stole a pass at the top of the key with 18 seconds left and went the length of the court, where she was fouled going up for a lay up. She gave the Lady Lions a 51-50 lead with 13 seconds to play by draining both free throws, but the Crusaders would have the final shot. Jen Clark drove the lane and got off a shot, but it was deflected out of bounds by Albright with two seconds left. The Lady Lion defense was airtight on the inbound pass, forcing Susquehanna to throw the ball toward mid court, where it went harmlessly out of bounds as the final buzzer sounded to seal Albright's win.

It was the defense that gave Albright a chance to win the game in the final minutes. The two teams went back and forth in the opening half, with the lead changing hands seven times. Susquehanna was able to open a six-point lead, 26-20, after a Ruth Williamson basket with a minute left in the half. Natalie Bizzarro canned a jumper on Albright's next possession, and the Lady Lions went to the locker room trailing by four, 26-22. Albright pulled even at 30 on a Bizzarro lay up four minutes in to the second half, but Clark answered with a three at the other end to keep Susquehanna in front. The Crusader lead never grew to more than six points, however, and Albright was able to cut the lead to one, 42-41, on a Marie Levins breakaway lay up with nine minutes to play in the ballgame. Williamson scored four straight for Susquehanna to push the lead back to five, 46-41, but the Lady Lions would shut the Crusaders down from that point on. Susquehanna would score just four points in the final 7:40, the last coming on a Bri McNallen free throw with 4:55 remaining. Levins drilled a triple on Albright's next possession, making the score 50-48 with 4:32 to play. Neither team would score for the next four minutes, until Hardwick's free throw got the Lady Lions within one and set up McMahon's heroics in the waning moments of the game.

Bizzarro led Albright with 13 points, equaling her season high. Levins and McMahon each added 10 points for the Lady Lions, with Levins handing out a team-high five assists. Hardwick led Albright with nine rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Clark was the only Crusader to reach double figures, finishing with 12 points.
