CHESTER, Pa. — Widener’s nearly eradicated a 16-point second-half deficit, but its effort fell short in a 63-54 Commonwealth Conference loss to Elizabethtown at Schwartz Center.

Elizabethtown (13-9, 5-7 CC) went on a 13-4 run bridging both halves for its biggest lead, 36-20 with 18:28 remaining. Erin Walton netted eight points in that span.

Widener (9-14, 3-9) refused to pack it in, exploding on a 27-14 spurt to close to 50-47 with 4:08 to play. Sophomores Megan Sipple and Barbara Fleming each netted seven points in that run.

But the Blue Jays iced it with a 9-2 run for a 59-49 lead with 56 seconds left. Megan Romano shot 6-for-6 from the line in that span.

Walton scored 16 of her game-high 25 points in the opening half, helping Elizabethtown open a 32-20 lead. Megan Quinn scored 14 points overall and Audrey Hitz hauled in 19 rebounds as the Blue Jays gained a 54-39 edge.

Freshman Becky Tyler scored 11 points and junior Stephanie Bixby added 10 and nine rebounds for the Pride, who shot only 29 percent (18-of-63) from the floor.

Widener plays its final regular-season home game of the season Tuesday against Moravian as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team. The women’s game begins at 6:00 pm, followed by the men’s contest at 8:00 pm.
