CHESTER, Pa. — Sophomore Barbara Fleming scored eight of her season-high 14 points in a decisive first-half run, helping Widener to a 62-50 Commonwealth Conference victory over Lebanon Valley at Schwartz Center.

Fleming netted all of her first-half points during the half-ending 23-3 run as Widener (8-12, 2-7 CC) turned a 12-11 edge into a 35-14 cushion. The Pride shot 45 percent (14-of-31) from the field to snap a four-game skid and held the Flying Dutchmen (6-12, 3-6) to only 26 percent (5-of-19) for the half.

Lebanon Valley made a run in the second half, netting eight straight points to move to 43-30 with 10:35 left. Monica Johnson poured in seven points in that stretch.

But Widener held on as sophomore Beth Dessart Mager drilled a 3-pointer with 9:01 left and added a jumper with 7:54 to go for a 50-32 lead. The Flying Dutchmen got no closer than the final score.

Fleming shot 5-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-3 from 3-point range, helping Widener hit 42 percent (26-of-62) from the floor. Dessart Mager poured in 13 points, junior Stephanie Bixby had 11 and 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season and sophomore Kelley Guarrera added 10 and eight.

Widener owned a 41-29 rebounding edge, marking the 14th time this season in 20 games it has held the advantage.

Johnson had 14 points and eight rebounds with Megan Bish adding 11 points for LVC, which shot 40 percent (20-of-50) from the field.

Widener is home Saturday against Juniata as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team. The women’s game begins at 1:00 pm, followed by the men’s contest at 3:00 pm.
