CHESTER, Pa. — Tom Arthur scored 28 points and had 13 rebounds for Philadelphia Biblical, which staved a late rally by Widener for a 75-71 victory at Schwartz Center.

Jon Woodin hit a layup with 4:46 left for Philadelphia Biblical’s last basket of the game and a 69-57 cushion.

Widener rallied with a 12-2 run, thanks to seven points from senior Essien Ford, to close to 71-69 with 30 seconds left. Ford’s 3-pointer capped the spurt after Tyler Bull made two from the line with 39 seconds to play for the Crimson Eagles (3-4).

Senior Malcolm Thomas missed a 3-pointer for Widener (4-4) from the left wing before Chase Byler hit 1-of-2 from the line to give PBU a 72-69 lead with 16 seconds to go. Sophomore Nyere Miller was short on his 3-point attempt for Widener and Byler followed with two free throws with 7.1 seconds left for a 74-69 game.

Arthur shot 12-of-23 from the field for the Crimson Eagles, who connected on 54 percent (14-of-26) from the floor in the second half and 48 percent (28-of-58) overall. Byler scored 16 points, Bull poured in 15 and Woodin added 10.

Thomas closed with 21 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Ford ended with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting and senior David Douglas contributed 10 points.

Widener shot 43 percent (25-of-58) from the floor but was only 8-of-24 from 3-point range, including 3-of-10 in the second half.

Widener continues its four-game homestand Saturday against Cabrini, beginning at 3:00 pm.
