CHESTER, Pa. — Senior Malcolm Thomas scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the second half for Widener, which came out firing in the second half for a 61-46 victory over Cabrini at Schwartz Center.

Thomas scored five points during Widener’s 10-2 run to open the second half for a 32-24 lead with 16:21 left. He capped that run on a dunk following a steal from freshman Bobby Edmunds.

Thomas shot 5-of-6 from the floor after intermission and ended the contest with eight rebounds over 32 minutes. Widener, winners in four of its last five outings, shot 46 percent (15-of-33) from the floor after intermission and held Cabrini (1-7) to only 39 percent (9-of-23).

Widener senior Terry Smith had 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and six rebounds over 19 minutes after missing the last three games due to injury. Senior Essien Ford closed with 11 points and nine rebounds, helping Widener gain a 40-32 rebounding advantage.

Greg Clifton poured in 15 points and Randy Reid had eight and 11 rebounds before fouling out for the Cavaliers.

Widener returns home Thursday against Maryland Bible, beginning at 7:30 pm.
