CHESTER, Pa. — Senior Essien Ford continued his climb of the scoring charts with 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting, helping Widener roll to a 75-46 win over Maryland Bible at Schwartz Center.

Ford poured in 10 points during a game-opening run over the first 8 1/2 minutes as Widener ran away and hid with a 27-6 lead. Widener (6-4) owned a 35-22 halftime lead, thanks to Ford’s 14 points, by shooting 42 percent (15-of-36) from the floor and holding Maryland Bible to only 29 percent (9-of-31).

Closing just three points shy of his career best from January 7, 2006 at Rutgers-Camden, Ford tonight also had nine rebounds and four 3-pointers over 29 minutes. He moved into 19th place on Widener’s all-time scoring list with 1,091 points.

Senior Malcolm Thomas finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds over 27 minutes for his second double-double in three contests. Senior Terry Smith had eight points and six rebounds.

Tyler Yanosky netted 16 points and George Washington added 11 and 13 rebounds for Maryland Bible, which shot just 29 percent (18-of-63) from the floor and 4-of-25 from 3-point range.

Widener does not hit the floor again until January 3, when it closes the four-game homestand against Eastern. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm.
