Edmunds hit a driving layup with 2:08 left and nailed a free throw after he was hacked by Michael Boles for a 54-51 lead. Senior Essien Ford hit 1-of-2 from the stripe to give Widener a four-point lead, but Albert Modero made a layup as Albright closed to 55-53 with 1:22 remaining.
Greg Conroy converted 1-of-2 from the line with 24 seconds left, moving the Lions to 55-54. Edmunds drilled 1-of-2 from the stripe with seven seconds to play, restoring the two-point margin for Widener (8-5, 3-0 CC).
Matt Kieselowsky missed a 3-pointer for Albright, but Conroy was there for the offensive rebound and was fouled with 4.2 seconds remaining. He failed on the first, but made the second as he tried to intentionally miss for a 56-55 game.
Sophomore Nyere Miller made 1-of-2 for the line with 3.5 seconds left and a 57-55 Widener lead. Albright called timeout at half court with 1.7 seconds to go, but Conroy missed a 3-point leaner at the buzzer.
Kieselowsky almost was the hero for the Lions, drilling a straightaway 3-pointer with 25 seconds left in regulation for a 48-46 lead. Albright (5-8, 0-3) chose to deliberately foul senior Malcolm Thomas with 18 seconds and take its chances at the line. But Thomas calmly drilled a pair for a 48-48 game.
The Lions tried for a good look at the end of regulation, but Kieselowsky’s jumper at the buzzer fell well short.
Senior Terry Smith scored 16 points, one shy of his season best, along with nine rebounds over 41 minutes and Thomas contributed 15 and seven. Ford closed with 11 points and nine rebounds over 43 minutes and Edmunds finished with nine and seven.
Medoro scored 12 points and Kieselowsky also netted 12 on four 3-pointers. Shane Harvey grabbed nine rebounds, helping Albright to a 42-41 edge.
