Puget Sound 90, George Fox 72

DOVER, De. — Rashawn Johnson (SO, Selbyville, DE/Sussex Tech) paced the Wolverines with 31 points and 10 rebounds, as Wesley defeated Eastern University (8-7, 5-5) by a final score of 78-75, in men's basketball action at Jim and Shirley Wentworth Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Evan Martin (SO, Wilmington, DE/Laurinburg) added 16 points for Wesley in a key conference win, while Johnson was 11-of-21 from the field. Wesley improves to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Wesley jumped out to an early 12-4 lead with 14:38 remaining in the first half, before the Eagles tied the score at 18 apiece with just under 11 minutes to go. Eastern went into halftime up 34-33.

After the Eagles scored the first two points of the second half, Wesley went on a 20-8 run to take a 53-44 lead with 11:54 remaining in the game. After two consecutive Johnson three-pointers and a Daniel Henry (SO, Smyrna, DE/Smyrna) basket, Wesley was up 66-51 with 8:27 remaining in the game. Eastern steadily mounted a comeback closing within 5 (66-61) with just under 7 minutes to play. The Wolverines held the lead the rest of the way with Eastern pulling to within 1 (76-75) with 16 seconds left, following a David Volpe (JR, Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock) lay-up. Martin then went the distance of the court with a lay-up with 8 seconds to go for the final margin. Eastern had one last attempt to tie the game, but was unable to convert.

The Wolverines committed only 8 turnovers in the game, while forcing the Eagles into 20 turnovers. Eastern shot an impressive 28-of-47 (59.6%) from the field, while Wesley was 30-of-74 (40.5%) from the field. Eastern was led by Lenny DiMaria's (SR, Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) 17 points. Wesley will next be in action on Monday, January 22nd as they will host Immaculata University at 8:00 PM.
